These baked chicken thighs are an easy recipe I make at least once a month. Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks to ensure they are juicy and flavorful chicken thighs that your family will ask you to make again and again.

If you’re short on time but want to serve your family a delicious and nutritious meal, this is the recipe you want to make. With just 5 minutes of prep, you can pop them into the oven and walk away.
I have two tricks to making these chicken thighs juicy and flavorful. You can use both of these tricks on any baked bone in chicken thigh recipe you make.
Season under the skin. This ensures that every bite you take is delicious.
Leave the skin on, even if you’re not going to eat it. The skin acts as a protective barrier, preventing the meat from becoming dry. If you don’t want to eat it, remove it after it’s cooked.

- The combination of simple, pantry-staple spices gives them tons of flavor.
- They are always juicy. We cook them with the skin on (but give instructions on preparing them if you'd prefer not to eat the skin), ensuring they never dry out.
- Based on the popular Perfect Baked Chicken Breasts recipe, so you'll know they'll be a hit.
- After only 5 minutes of prep, they'll be ready to hang out in the oven and cook themselves.
- Sugar-free! Many chicken thigh recipes call for sugar, but we think it's unnecessary. This recipe is crazy delicious AND healthy.
- Leftovers taste great sliced off the bone and served over salad for lunch. 1 recipe = 2 meals. Love meal prep!
Baked chicken thighs recipe ingredients
Chicken thighs are naturally juicy and flavorful, so you only need a few spices to take them to the next level. Here are the ingredients to gather:
- Chicken thighs:You’ll want bone-in chicken thighs with the skin on for this recipe. If you don’t want to eat the skin, leave it on for cooking as it helps prevent the meat from drying out. You can remove it when it’s cooked, if you’d like.
- Olive oil:this helps the spices stick to the chicken and helps render the fat from the skin, making it crispy. You can substitute another neutral-flavored oil, if you’d like.
- Spices:From your pantry, take out some onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
That’s it! With these few ingredients you can make the juiciest bone-in chicken thighs ever!

How to make baked chicken thighs in oven
This is one of those ‘staple recipes' you'll end up reaching for again and again. Only rather than reading the recipe each time, you'll simply head to your pantry and start pulling out the spices.
- Mix the spices together in a small bowl.
- Drizzle the chicken thighs with some olive oil.
- Sprinkle the spices over the chicken.
- Bake.
That's it! After only 5 minutes of prep, these babies cook themselves. Dinner doesn't get any easier than this.
How long to bake chicken thighs
Chicken thighs can vary widely in size, which means that the time it takes to cook them also varies. An average bone-in chicken thigh weighs about 6 ounces and will yield 2 ½ – 3 ounces of meat.
If the thighs you're cooking are very small, check them after 30 minutes. If they're very big, they may need 45 minutes to fully cook. Chicken thighs are pretty forgiving, so if they stay in your oven for an extra few minutes, chances are they'll still be juicy.
Oven baked chicken thighs temperature
You'll want to cook your chicken thighs for 35-40 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

What to serve with baked chicken thighs
We often eat these baked chicken thighs with a big green salad tossed in one of my favorite salad dressing recipes. They go especially well with the Creamy Balsamic Vinaigrette or Lifesaving Lemony Salad Dressing. It's a quick and easy weeknight meal that takes almost no time to put together.
A big pile of roasted veggies (cooked in the oven at the same time as the chicken) is another great option.
If you're feeling extra hungry, make a side of Garlic Smashed Red Potatoes, Greek Lemon Potatoes, or some perfect basmati rice for a full meal.
How to store oven baked chicken thighs
If you’re lucky enough to have leftover baked chicken thighs, you can keep them in the fridge and enjoy them throughout the week. First, let them cool to room temperature, then transfer them to an airtight container. Pop them in the fridge for up to four days, and when you’re ready to eat them, reheat in the oven. They are also delicious served cold from the fridge or sliced and served cold over salad for lunch.
You can also freeze them for up to three months.

Notes
Chicken skin: If you leave the skin on the chicken while it's cooking, it will stay juicier. If you'd rather not eat the skin, sprinkle the spices underneath. That way, when you remove the skin after baking, the chicken will still be spiced.
Spice blend: If you have a seasoning blend in your pantry that you'd like to use, feel free to substitute it for the listed spices. You'll need about four tablespoons. If the blend you use doesn't have salt, add a teaspoon of salt and pepper.
Size of thighs: Chicken thighs can vary significantly in size, which means the cooking time also varies. If the thighs you're cooking are very small, check them after 30 minutes. If they're very big, they may need 45 minutes to fully cook. Chicken thighs are pretty forgiving, so if they stay in your oven for an extra few minutes, chances are they'll still be juicy.
